Château d’Allaman is a medieval monument located on the Vaud shores of Lake Geneva, dating back to 1291. This renovation project reinterprets the château’s deep historical identity through a contemporary architectural language, establishing a refined balance between heritage and modern comfort. Within the main building, a family suite and three double bedrooms were redesigned to respect the authenticity of the site while meeting current standards of comfort and elegance. The annex of the château was reimagined with three complementary functions: an exhibition gallery that presents the history of the estate in a museum-like format and also showcases the château’s own wine, produced from grapes grown in its surrounding vineyards; a meeting room designed for formal gatherings; and a smoking room created to support more informal and social interactions—together forming a cohesive spatial experience. A distinctive aspect of the project lies in the creative reuse of historical furniture and objects. Many items stored after previous large-scale renovations were reinterpreted and integrated into the new design. Old wine barrels were transformed into tables; bear sculptures found in the château were highlighted around the fireplace in the smoking room; and antique stone tiles from the former bathrooms were incorporated as decorative surfaces within the new bathrooms. Through this approach, the château’s material memory becomes an active part of the design, lending authenticity and character to the renovated spaces. Dans le bâtiment principal, une suite familiale et trois chambres doubles ont été repensées afin de respecter l’authenticité du lieu tout en répondant aux exigences actuelles de confort et d’élégance. L’annexe du château a été réorganisée autour de trois fonctions complémentaires : une galerie d’exposition présentant l’histoire du domaine de manière muséale et offrant également la mise en valeur du vin du château, produit à partir des raisins cultivés dans ses vignobles ; une salle de réunion destinée aux rencontres formelles ; et un fumoir favorisant des échanges plus informels et sociaux, constituant ainsi une expérience spatiale cohérente. L’un des aspects les plus distinctifs du projet réside dans la réutilisation créative de meubles et d’objets historiques. De nombreux éléments conservés après de vastes travaux de rénovation ont été réinterprétés et intégrés dans le nouveau design. D’anciens tonneaux de vin ont été transformés en tables ; les ours décorant le fumoir ont été mis en valeur autour de la cheminée ; et d’anciens carreaux en pierre provenant des anciennes salles d’eau ont été réutilisés comme surfaces décoratives dans les nouvelles salles de bains. Grâce à cette approche, la mémoire matérielle du château devient un acteur à part entière du projet, apportant authenticité et caractère aux espaces rénovés.
