Located within the arid landscapes of the Arizona desert, Linear House is designed as a self-sufficient residence powered entirely by solar energy. The elevated structure minimizes dust infiltration while giving the house a light and unobtrusive relationship with its surroundings. With no partitions separating the terrace from the exterior, the design creates an uninterrupted sense of continuity toward the horizon. Exposed plain concrete-used as the main structural material-helps maintain interior coolness under desert heat. These concrete surfaces form a linear spine that begins at the entrance, flows through the living area, and extends outward to the terrace. This central zone is intentionally left open and unbounded, allowing the interior to merge seamlessly with the outdoors. Clad in wood on the exterior, the elongated main wing provides individual access to each room along a transverse corridor. Beyond the two bedrooms lies a fully glazed space dedicated to reading and relaxation, offering an immersive connection to the surrounding desert landscape. Linear House presents a quiet yet striking interpretation of modern and sustainable living in the Arizona desert, articulated through its pure geometry, climate-responsive materiality, and architectural integration with the desert topography. Implantée au cœur des paysages arides du désert de l’Arizona, Linear House est conçue comme une habitation autonome fonctionnant entièrement à l’énergie solaire. Sa structure surélevée limite l’infiltration de poussière tout en établissant une relation légère et discrète avec son environnement. L’absence de séparation entre la terrasse et l’extérieur crée une continuité ininterrompue vers la ligne d’horizon. Le béton brut apparent, utilisé comme matériau structurel principal, contribue à maintenir la fraîcheur intérieure sous la chaleur du désert. Ces surfaces en béton forment une colonne vertébrale linéaire qui commence à l’entrée, traverse l’espace de vie et se prolonge jusqu’à la terrasse. Cette zone centrale, volontairement ouverte et non cloisonnée, permet une transition fluide entre intérieur et extérieur. Revêtue de bois à l’extérieur, l’aile principale allongée offre un accès individuel à chaque pièce le long d’un couloir transversal. Au-delà des deux chambres se trouve un espace entièrement vitré dédié à la lecture et à la détente, offrant une connexion immersive avec le paysage désertique.
